Targeted radiation therapy to attack cancer and shrink tumors
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, radiation treatments may offer hope.
At the Methodist cancer centers, our board-certified radiation oncologists use the latest technology to plan and deliver precise dosages of targeted radiation therapy to destroy cancer cells, shrink tumors or control progression of diseases.
Advanced technology provides targeted radiation
Some specific, advanced radiation technology available to you and your treatment team include:
This minimally-invasive treatment uses imaging to guide the specially-trained radiologist as an alternative to open surgery for some tumors. Learn more about the conditions treated with Interventional Radiology.
This type of radiation treatment is given inside the body, as close to the cancer as possible. Learn about how brachytherapy is used to target cancer and spare healthy cells.
Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
This radiation therapy uses imaging technology during radiation therapy. The combination of these technologies give improved treatment precision - particularly tumors on parts of the body that move - such as the lungs. Learn more about Image Guided Radiation Therapy.
Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
When tumors affect vital organs, IMRT allows higher doses of radiation to be administered precisely to the tumor - minimizing side effects. Learn about the IMRT technology.
Precisely targeting a tumor using specific coordinates allows high intensity radiation to be applied to tumors near critical organs without open surgery. Learn how stereotactic radiosurgery is used to treat hard-to-reach tumors in areas such as the spine, brain, lungs and liver.
Nationally recognized for quality and safety of treatment
Our radiation oncology programs are awarded the seal of accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR). To achieve this endorsement, an expert-led comprehensive on-site evaluation is conducted.
The evaluation covers all aspects of the program including staff, equipment, patient safety procedures and quality assessments. The results of our evaluation are then measured against nationally-recognized standards of care. This accreditation is awarded to our program showing the highest levels of quality and patient safety.
Patient-awarded for excellent care
The care we deliver to you and your family is something we are focused on. We want to battle your cancer - but, at the same time, show compassion. Each year we ask Professional Research Consultants, a national healthcare research firm, to confidentially survey our patients about the quality of care received.
PRC compares these results to those of other national facilities and awards 5-Star Excellent ratings to those who rank in the top 10%. Our Outpatient Radiology clinics achieved this rating.
We thank those patients who provided frank feedback and insights which we use to improve the care we provide.
