Breast Cancer Survivor
"I'm not just a survivor," laughs Cheryl Stevens, "I'm a live-er!" Her breast cancer diagnosis was initially devastating, Cheryl admits, but then cancer liberated her to seize the joy in life. Delighting in a newfound flair for silliness, Cheryl transformed cancer treatment into grand theme parties by dressing in crazy hats and costumes, passing out treats and spreading good cheer. Cheryl revels in bringing out the playfulness in others, including the team who cared for her, led by medical oncologist Stephen Lemon, MD; Kathryn Simone, APRN; and surgeon Gregory Eakins, MD.
Though her treatment is complete, Cheryl regularly returns to Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center to brighten the day for patients and staff, saying, "These folks are my heroes and my inspiration."
