Cancer has a powerful effect on your mind and spirit - in addition to your body. Psycho-oncologists join your treatment team to help you and your family handle changes and stress.
What is a psycho-oncologist?
Psycho-oncologists are medical doctors of psychiatry who have received specialized training in the social and psychological challenges cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship can present.
Working with other members of your care team, the psycho-oncologist helps you with the stress of medical treatment, challenges you or your family may have adjusting to the illness, relationships with your caregivers and family members, and coping with the physical changes your treatment may involve.
